  Pinsh Technology
    Overview

We are frequently asked about our performance objectives and how we go about researching the designs, refining them and then bringing them to the market. How do we know when we’ve got the sound right, what sort of compromises are made regarding performance versus profit, and so on?

These are sensible questions and deserve sensible answers, and this page (and the page entitled “How and why we voice our loudspeakers to sound as they do”) will we hope provide an interesting and useful insight.

    The designers

Our design team is deliberately small. This way, communication between the team members is fast and concise and the team can react very quickly to fresh ideas, changes and enhancements.

The company is appropriately funded – which means that there is no desperation to compromise in any of the engineering disciplines.

In turn this means that models are released only when thorough testing by a demanding jury of non-technical music lovers has concluded that it’s appropriate to release the model.

Please note, the ‘jury’ are music lovers, not engineers. Having said this, all our designers and engineers are music lovers too.

    Our ribbons

All our ribbons are designed and built in-house. There are no exceptions.

Sourcing them elsewhere is certainly cheaper and less time consuming – as other users of ribbon technology have discovered – but these third-party designs fall far short of our musical standards and invariably the quality of engineering necessary to drive the price right down is unlikely to result in high levels of reliability.

Currently we don’t supply ribbons to any other company.

Quite simply then, to obtain the Pinsh ribbon sound, you need to purchase Pinsh ribbon loudspeakers.

What is the Pinsh ribbon sound?

Rather than us trying to explain this, bearing in mind we are biased, we will leave it to reviewers. Here are some extracts from reviews in the UK Hi-Fi press:

“ Ribbons do shimmer. This is easily heard on the decay of a xylophone or vibraphone note or cymbals. It simply shimmers. There’s no other word for it. Was it accurate though? Who knows? Who cares? It’s just magical, compelling, entrancing. Pinsh are going for listenability first and foremost,”

    Hi-Fi News (reprinted at H-21.org)

“ The Pinsh 1 , even though second costliest, consistently proved its superiority in cohesion in all frequency ranges. Where it combined bass dexterity and extension stunningly well, and boasted excellent high-frequency ability too.”

    Hi-Fi World

“ It’s their astonishing performance, their ability to punch above their weight and the remarkable value that tips the balance for me. All the more extraordinary given that these are at the very bottom of their range.”

    Crossovers

These are all designed and built in house. The primary objective is to use the absolute minimum number of components, while ensuring that the components and wiring are of the very highest quality obtainable anywhere. Certainly very much in line with the philosophy of “less = more”.

Inevitably our thoughts are evolving towards a full range loudspeaker without a crossover. Theoretically possible but challenging to achieve in practice.

    Bass drivers

Cone driver technology is a type of acoustic engineering we understand very well, but not something we wish to get involved with directly. Consequently we source the very finest bass drivers from around the world and where necessary either modify the drivers or we get them manufactured to our specifications.

    Cabinets

Our cabinets are designed in house and built to our specifications by one of the foremost Scandinavian loudspeaker cabinet makers.
